250 Cabrini - Hudson Heights

By Jennifer Chiappetta on April 10, 2012

One of the main characteristics that are impossible to ignore in Hudson Heights is the Pre-War feel through out the neighborhood. In this Pre-War building, 250 Cabrini, this is no exception. The Art-Deco design and architecture once again proves that where there is a Pre-War ambience, there is a variety of culture and arts that illuminates throughout, not only making the apartments appealing but the community itself has added value.

This coop building was built in 1936; it was originally a rental building that turned co-op in 1984. Situated on a slight hill facing north, alongside the Hudson River; the views are incredible.  Two blocks away from elementary and intermediate school P.S. 187, you are guaranteed to brush shoulders with the teachers, parents, and students; all whom add to the richness in culture and community-feel in the area.

The building has a part-time doorman which I always find to be friendly and helpful, like Angel, who’ll meet you the first time but still remember your name when you pass by days later.  The building is extremely well kept; the walk to the laundry room in the building is also pleasant since there is beautifully crafted vintage art-work displayed as well as their own personal “library” a place where people in the building showcase their collection of dropped-off books for anyone to borrow and return after reading. I remember seeing Shakespeare and Hemingway in this collection. This is just a small example of why anyone in this building would feel incredibly supported as this is a true community within itself. The apartments itself are never “cookie-cutter” having its own personality and charm with arched doorways and ample space.

The best feature, however, is the rooftop deck that gives you a gorgeous unobstructed view of the Hudson River and the George Washington Bridge. Who knew New Jersey could be such beautiful sight? And yet, it is, as you feel as if you and the George Washington Bridge are on the same level; taking it all in you feel like you’re at one with the view.
