PS 6 is one of the most sought after public elementary schools on the Upper East Side.  Due to its outstanding reputation, parents often plan to move to the Upper East Side before their kids enter elementary school so as to ensure a chance to be part of this renowned NYC school.  Overcrowding is a problem for many NYC public schools, but the issue has been recognized as particularly acute in District 2 schools due to the closing of P151 five years ago.  Over 120 children that lived in the “PS 151″ zone found themselves without a zoned school in Yorkville.  As a result, schools like PS 6 have been proposed to relieve overcrowding through rezoning.  PS 6 has been actively fighting the rezoning and even if a new PS 151 were to open the threat of a new rezoning plan is always possible.  If you are looking to send your children to PS 6 and you are currently not zoned for it, make sure you know the exact boundaries and get up to speed with all the updated news.  You will have the support of a knowledgeable agent which is always a plus and can help you to make the process stress free.  On a lighter note, let’s not forget that PS 6 has had many famous alumni, from Lenny Kravitz, William Hurt, Chevy Chase, Richard Avedon, as well as Peter Cincotti and JD Salinger just to name a few.
