If you love good food and a hip atmosphere you should definitely visit Cinema Restaurant on 34th and 3rd Avenue in Murray Hill. I have lived in this neighborhood for more than 10 years and this place is one of my most favorite eateries in the neighborhood. Maybe it has something to do with their [...]
If you haven’t been to Japan, East Japanese Sushi is a wonderful place to visit. You will have a similar eating experience as you would in Japan. They have a traditional moving bar, colored plate system which determines the cost of each dish as well as a well balanced menu.
The staff is very polite and [...]

Rodeo Bar
Having spent the last four years in Nashville, Tennessee, and recently relocating to The Big Apple, I sometimes find myself in desperate need of a night spent hearing my cowboy boots crunch a floor full of peanut shells. When such desire strikes, I invariably head to Rodeo Bar.
Located in the heart of Murray Hill [...]
I love my cup of Starbucks every morning, but recently I switched up my morning routine and stopped in at the Brasil Coffee House. Located on the corner of 30th Street and Lexington Avenue, this independent coffee shop features a wide variety of organically grown Brazilian coffees, and is a hidden gem nestled right across the street from Murray Hill’s top brunch spot, Penelope’s Café. This charming corner bistro features muffins, soups, cookies and a welcome reprise from the daily hustle and bustle of New York City. I especially love it for an afternoon cup of coffee because since it faces south, the sunlight coming in casts a warm glow on a chilly afternoon. Brasil Coffee House imports naturally-processed, select green coffee, exclusively from growers in the Cerrado and South Minas region of Brasil. They then maintain it under strict quality control standards. So if you’re looking for a relaxing place to work on your laptop, stop in and check it out.
If you have not had a chance to stop in Benjamin Restaurant on 33rd and 2nd –jump right in! Once in a while I get tired of grabbing a slice at Pizza 33 or a street meat extravaganza and I’m ready to drop $15 bucks, saddle up to the bar and finish the NY Post – then this is my joint. If anyone remembers the old P& G Café on 73rd and Amsterdam, then this is its downtown cousin. I recently had the pleasure of getting the pesto chicken wrap with a heaping portion of fresh cut fries for $10. You gotta love a joint that gives you free unlimited refills on the Diet Coke without asking. On my recent visit there were also two neighborhood regulars discussing the finer points of the cold seasonal ale coming out of the tap. When you just want to be left alone, have a good meal and not be surrounded by huge loud crowds come down and check this place out. Try the Grilled Thai Spiced Salmon Wrap or Cinnamon & Cocoa Dusted Chicken Breast with Pineapple Sauce. They also serve pastas, thin crust pizzas, meat and seafood.
Without a doubt the go-to brunch place in Murray Hill is Penelope Café. I turned the corner on a recent Sunday and was met by a wall of 20-somethings waiting on the bench outside, one of the many small details the owners pay attention to that make this such a joy.
OK so here is the challenge-you walk into the Clover Deli on 34th and Second with good intentions. You are thinking grilled chicken and avocado wrap with lettuce and tomato. But in order to get to this deli counter you have to walk by the display case featuring giant cupcakes with dark chocolate icing and Oreo cookie toppings. You are holding firm until you spot a strawberry macaroon cake-did you even know that strawberries and macaroons could go together?
You know I had been good for weeks - fruit smoothies in the morning, lots of veggies and protein, no white flour/sugar and then BOOM … I walked by Carl’s and the smell of fried onions and warm bread hypnotized me. I was powerless to resist the temptation to walk in the front door in a daze and simply say “Give me one with the works!” I have to say-it was heaven.
Don’t you love how helpful, friendly and accommodating new restaurants are? Well this little gem on 37th between 5th Ave. and Madison takes the prize.
I stopped in at lunch and was thrilled with the lunch box special - only $4.95! Lunch on the run should be quick, cheap, healthy and delicious. This covered all the bases.
