Anyone who thinks you can’t get a decent, high-quality meal above 100th Street has obviously not been to Community Food & Juice.
The restaurant opened in November of 2007 and focuses on what they describe as “an American-eclectic menu that features seasonal, local, organic food whenever possible.”
However you’d want to describe it though, I’d say it’s just plain good. To me, it’s what your Southern Grandmother would make you if she cared at all about the health-value of your comfort food. Simple ingredients combined with well-executed preparations make for some really tasty dishes.
I like to hit Community for brunch on the weekends for a variety of reasons. First, the line is generally manageable. While you may have to wait 15 to 20 minutes during peak times, it’s not out of control like some other Manhattan restaurants.
Second, I am a sucker for biscuits – but their whole wheat buttermilk biscuits let me indulge without feeling like I ate breakfast at a KFC.
Third, since they use only the freshest fruits and veggies, it adds a ton of flavor to dishes that at other establishments would be fairly bland. In fact, their veggie scramble is one of the best in the city – trust me I’ve tried most of them. They also make both a ridiculously good café con leches and bellinis– so no matter what your mood, there will be something to suit your taste.
